When was the last time you celebrated YOU?
I mean really celebrated the fact that you are amazing. The fact that you are a beautiful light in this world. The fact that you are a living miracle.
Seriously. I’m asking.
Because guess what? It’s not at all conceited or selfish or bad to honor how wonderful you are. Just the opposite, actually. You celebrating your beautiful soul’s existence in this magical world is huge! It’s you telling the universe (and everyone in it) that you matter. And that you are special. And that you deserve oh so much to live a full, happy, connected, loved life.
And I love that.
Yes, I know that this doesn’t come easily to most of us. (Myself included.) And I know that it seems uncomfortable to celebrate ourselves. I know that we will probably hear that negative voice inside our head telling us that by celebrating ourselves we’re getting a full head. I know that.
But I also know this:
Taking time to celebrate ourselves allows us to feel worthy and loved and connected to our soul.
And I can’t think of anything better than that.
So please, ask your inner critic to take a seat because it’s time for your soul to call the shots. It’s time for you to celebrate your uniqueness and your awesomeness. It’s time for you to celebrate your existence in this beautiful world.
Are you ready to do exactly that? If so, I have a super easy and super fun exercise that will get you started!
I was recently filling out Leonie Dawson’s beautiful Create Your Incredible Year Workbook and came across a page where she asked me to write down 10 things that I want to celebrate about myself this year.
And honestly filling it out wasn’t as easy as I wanted it to be. Our societal programming about not wanting to push forward and put ourselves first or toot our own horn runs deep within, doesn’t it? But I really wanted to complete this exercise, and I really wanted to allow my inner wisdom to guide me this year. I wanted that part of me who believes and really knows how special I am to call the shots.
And so I asked my human self (the part of me who wasn’t entirely comfortable with this exercise) to step aside for a moment, and I allowed my soul to fill it out.
I closed my eyes and imagined what my vision of a fully lived life looked like. I imagined talking to myself at the end of this year – after I had spent an entire year of celebrating ME – and I wrote down how that looked. What did I do? How did I take time to nourish my soul? How did I stay balanced? What were some specific things I could do to make sure I would want to celebrate ME at the end of the year?
And this is what I wrote:
And then I printed it out where I can see it every single day. And really allow the words to seep all the way through the doubt and inner critic and go deep within until they reach my soul. Because I know that this is where the magic lives.
I love reading these words and feeling the positive energy that comes from setting such a clear intention. I love knowing that I am going to feel proud of myself this year – not for external success, but for internal balance and nourishment and love.
Now it’s your turn!
I would love for you to either fill out this page in your own Create Your Incredible Year Workbook or write it on a piece of paper. And really think about how you want to celebrate YOU this year. And then write down 10 things you want to make happen this year – 10 things that you will get to cheer yourself on for!
- Are there goals you want to reach?
- Ways you would like to grow?
- Connections you would like to make?
- Ways to nurture yourself that you would like to include?
- Creative outlets that you are wanting to explore?
- Dreams that you would like to make come true?
Whatever is true for you, just be sure to write it down. And then hang it up where you’ll see it often. The more you see it, there more it will become believable. And when you believe it, you can achieve it. It’s true.
I would LOVE for you to take a picture and share your lists on my Facebook page! Let’s feel comfortable celebrating ourselves. Let’s get past all of that crap that we’ve learned against horn tooting and patting ourselves on the back. Let’s bypass all of that and head straight to our soul – our beautiful essence that is always so worthy of celebrating.
I can’t wait to read your lists!
Please spread the love by sharing this on Facebook and Twitter!
Hugs,

Full disclosure: I am an affiliate of Leonie’s, and so I receive a percentage of sales from these planners. But I have to say, that even if I didn’t, I would still recommend them wholeheartedly!
I discovered this gem earlier …. I love it and have it printed out 🙂
What a fabulous exercise, Jodi. I am going to make a list for myself 🙂 I love your photo with the Workbook and your own list! This is such a wonderful way to feel good about ourselves.
Thank you. This just brightened my day! Hugs to you!
This is so timely for me. I’ve just self-published my first book. I’ve just finished creating content for my brand new website. I’ve just completed loads of half-finished art projects. Rather than celebrating what has been three years of work, I’m struggling with your number 1. It is so hard to really take time to acknowledge what we’ve done, no matter how big or small, without constantly feeling pressure towards the next thing. There’s certainly work for me to do here (but the relaxed celebratory kind, not the push to also be great at celebrating myself kind ha!).
I love love love this workbook+planner! 😀 Your handwriting is SO pretty! I’ll have to photograph mine and share it soon.
Great list Jodi – so glad you allowed your soul to soar and shared it with us. It encourages us all to join in the celebration. I can hear those corks popping. 🙂
Love Elle

Jodi, I love your list!!! And such a great idea to print it and have it in front of you as a reminder of all the important ways you’re nourishing your soul.
And thank you! Your post just reminded me to continue filling out my copy of Leonie’s beautiful Workbook. It’s such a wonderful tool, but I had gotten wrapped up in things and temporarily put it aside – time to change that!
Sending much love. xoxo
Jodi,
So timely — yes, we need to celebrate ourselves…I don’t have an “official list,” but here are some items:
Be more compassionate and loving
Exhibit more patience
Make a strong effort to show people the greatness that is within them
Be a positive example for others
Be mindful of my thoughts and continue to give energy to positive ones
There are more, but those are a few. Thanks! 🙂
Thankyou Jodi,
It’s good to remember to celebrate yourself regularly. I know I can get stuck in what i’m doing and forget to do so as much as I should.

Yes! Celebrating themselves is so difficult for all my clients (and it was for me too)…and I just went to check what I’d written in my guidebook…and it was one I’d skipped over! Hmm. Need to model the behaviour I’m advocating myself methinks! 😀 x
