Your Inner Circle

Who do you allow into your inner circle?
A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about our happiness levels being the average of how happy our top few friends were. This is so interesting to me, and it really brought home the fact that we are all so sensitive to the energy around us. (You can read more about this here.)
Because we are like sponges and tend to take on other people’s moods and emotions, I think it’s a good idea to be careful about who we let into our inner circle.
By surrounding ourselves with friends and loved ones who give us energy instead of take it away, we fill ourselves up by being around them instead of feeling depleted.
By surrounding ourselves with friends and loved ones who are positive and grateful, we raise our own vibration to meet theirs – and being more positive and more grateful is such a wonderful way to experience life!
By surrounding ourselves with friends and loved ones who are filled with happiness and pure love, we become happier and love flows more easily.
***
I know that it’s not always easy to weed out your friends and family who don’t feed your soul. I know that ties run deep, and it can be hard to loosen the grip that they have on you.
But I also know that your happiness is worth it. You deserve to be happy and positive and radiant and grateful.
And if you are surrounding yourself with anyone who isn’t on this same path, it is only making it that much harder for you to be on yours.
Spend some time today thinking about who is in your inner circle.
Do they feed you or drain you?
And then begin the process of only allowing into your circle those who support you and feed your soul.
You are special, and your inner circle is a sacred space.
Be conscious about who you allow in.
And then celebrate being with those who celebrate you, who are happy, who support you, and who radiate love.

Our Happiness Level

I was listening to Hay House Radio yesterday, and the host was talking about how our happiness levels could be measured by averaging the happiness levels of our top few friends. I found this so interesting and also very eye opening.
It’s so important to surround ourselves with positive, emotionally healthy, and happy people. Because emotions and feelings are contagious (here is my previous post about this), it’s especially important and crucial for our own well being that we are cognizant of who we choose to be close to.
And I know that this isn’t always the easiest decision to make. Sometimes you’ll find that you’ve been friends with someone for years – you have a history that you would feel bad letting go of. And yet… every time you are with this friend you find that you start off in a happy mood (your mood), and you leave in a negative, sad mood (their mood). It’s crucial to your own happiness to carefully choose who you spend time with. If someone doesn’t help elevate your mood or make you feel great – it may be best to spend less time with them in the future.
And I’m not talking about a dear friend who has had a bad day and needs to vent (we’ve all been there). I’m talking about the person who continuously sees life through a darkened lens – who sees each experience through their negative filter. And while you may love them and want the best for them, you can also love yourself and want the best for your own well being and happiness.
On the positive side – think about your friends who radiate happiness. Think about how wonderful you feel after you spend time with them. Filling your life with people like this will actually help increase your own happiness!
And it doesn’t just have to be your friends – you can read positive books and blogs (like this one!), listen to inspirational podcasts, watch television shows that are happy and fun – anything you can think of to raise your own happiness level.
And in doing so, everyone who comes in contact with you will also have their own happiness levels raised.
It’s definitely worth thinking about. Your happiness is that important.

Your Happy List

Happy Monday, everyone!
Here is a writing prompt/question from our Journaling Within book:
Are you truly happy?
If so, what are some things that make you happy? If not, when was the last time you remember being truly happy?
Take some time today to think about the question above. It’s a great way to get in touch with yourself and find out what’s going on inside.
Sometimes we aren’t exactly sure what makes us happy – that’s where a Happy List comes in handy.

Start a new page in your journal or a new document file on your computer and create yours!
Here are some helpful tips:
  • To start, give yourself 15 minutes to sit down and write a list of everything you can think of that makes you happy.
  • Be sure not to censor yourself – this is just for you to see. Only write things that truly make you happy (not things that you think someone would want you to write or things that you think you should write).
  • Write down both big picture and smaller, everyday things that bring you happiness. For example, on one line you might write a family member’s name and on the next your favorite guilty pleasure tv show.
  • Get as specific as you can. For example, instead of writing your pet’s name – write something that they do that brings you joy.
Now you have your starting point, and you can add to this list anytime you think of something else.
This is a great list to come back to when you need an extra boost of happiness, too!
It’s also a great way to get to know yourself better.
So let’s all start our Happy Lists today! 🙂
